If everyone had even a basic plan for emergencies, there would be less panic. It is not hard to do, just do it now.
Have a Plan
The subject is not fun to think about, but it is something that may save your life. One never knows when a disaster will strike. It could be an earthquake, tornado, flood, snow storm, fire, EMP, or man made. Since we never know until it happens we all need to be at least somewhat prepared.
Stay Calm And Think Clearly
Stay calm in an emergency and think of your plan. You can write it out on paper now and give a copy to every family member, it will help you later. Include the meeting place, secondary meeting place, list of important phone numbers, even maps of evacuation routes.
I hope this article got you in gear. It is easy to do and does not cost much. You can add to your bag as you can afford it. The dollar store has energy bars, dry fruit, crackers, nuts, flashlights, batteries, fist aid, and more. Just start with necessities to get you home safely and add to it as you can. Each time you go to the store, add a few more items.

- Agree on an meeting place for everyone in your family. It may be your home, a relative's home or even a cabin. Make sure all members know about it.
- Have a secondary meeting place in case the first one is not accessible.
- Have both meeting places stocked with plenty of water, food, first aid items, flashlights, batteries, protection, and extra clothing at the minimum.
Make A Get Home Bag
- Make sure everyone has a Get Home Bag (more on that in another post) with necessities. Be sure to get a bag that blends in. The last thing you need is to be a target looking like Rambo, and someone may want to take what you have. Women can carry a large cross-body bag or plain backpack. Men can use a plain backpack, duffel bag, and/or keep small items in pockets, etc.
List Of Phone Numbers - Make sure everyone has a list of important phone numbers with them at all times other than inside a cell phone. What if the cell towers go out or they loose their phone.
