Chill a mixing bowl, and the insert from the ice cream maker in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
Beat together the following:
1/2 gallon milk
1/2 gallon half and half, or whipping cream
(any combination will work)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 - 1/2 cup sugar, opt.
This makes a little over 1 gallon of ice cream, it you have a 2 gallon freezer, double the recipe.
Pour into ice cream freezer, follow mfg. instructions.
If you don't have the instructions, add ice cream salt, and ice to the outside of the container holding the milk mixture, plug it in, and check it when the ice cream freezer sounds like it is slowing down.
Flavors:
Real Chocolate Sauce:
Mix together the following:
1/4 cup cocoa, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, enough water to thicken.
Either add the chocolate sauce when blending the milk and cream mixture, or swirl it in when it is almost frozen.
This is the time to add any other flavors like: chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, peppermint chips, nuts, carmel sauce, etc.
Nice Ice cream freezers can be found at thrift shops or Goodwill's for a very reasonable price. I found 2 new freezers for $10 each. I bought both in case one wears out, which it did.
I use them ALOT, I am a caregiver and was making homemade ice cream for a sweet 90 year old lady every week. Sometimes that was all she would eat, so I added protein powder, and every kind of fruit or vegetable I could think of, blended it together to make shakes. I even pureed baked sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini, (added cinnamon and honey, or cherry juice to disguise the flavor), bananas, apples & cinnamon, strawberries, blueberries, you name it. Then added a couple scoops of ice cream and a splash of fruit juice.
She loved them! It helped her survive, and start eating again!
